Proj4: A nice tool for coordinate transformations

Proj4: A nice tool for coordinate transformations

Case Studies, General, GeoIT, Opensource
Proj4 is an excellent little utility for coordinate conversion allowing the transformation of map coordinates from a slew of map projection systems. There are a number of ports that allow this tool to be seamlessly used programmatically. These include ports for python, R-Statistics, Proj4Net for dotNet, Javascript library. Through these options, the tool can be used directly from the command prompt or within code in scripts according to their preferred languages. This tool simplifies coordinate transformation and is especially suited in automating the coordinate transformation for any area. By considering the Kenyan case, two systems have been dominant in their application. These are the Cassini-Soldner and the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate systems. Well, you must have come across some projects that needed tracking of changes in the database or you might be working on one right now.Tracking changes (history recording) is vital in most projects more so where spatial data is involved.Whether you are using MySQL, PostGIS or Oracle Spatial tracking of history in data should be a capability that the database platform should support. The future of GIS – A Personal Note

General, Industry
Geospatial Information Systems have become a must have for organizations, institutions and individuals in the different industries around the globe. This is evident and also fact that in the modern day working environments, every organization or individual wants to be the best.Depending on the tools used in your organizations, there exist workflow that acts as your charm(Software). What works in one field might not necessarily work in the other, if you understand the dynamics of work execution procedures. Either using a software directly or customizing existing platforms to suite your organization, all these are efforts to make your work more efficient and effective at the end of the day. So is GIS your good friend today.
