9 Interesting topics in the Geospatial Industry for 2017

Data, General, Industry
We are living in an ever-changing world, full of new discoveries to help in different fields of operation. The Geospatial industry has experienced a big change in all aspects; file formats, visualization platforms, forms of data and even the GIS software themselves. As this trend continues, every day has its own new story or innovation that's being revealed. In this post, I share some of the interesting areas or fields in which innovations will be experienced in 2017. Some of these topics were present in the last year and continue to be key areas of focus. 3D Modeling Moving from 2D to 3D models is a trend that has been evident in the past and this frontier continues to find its use in many fields across the Geospatial industry. In many fields, data representation, for example, a 3D ...

Major Acquisitions and Partnerships in the Geospatial Industry; the math of business transformation

Applications, General, Industry
In the recent release of the Global Geospatial Industry Outlook Report by Geospatial Media and Communications, it is illustrated the drivers of Acquisitions and Partnerships that have been witnessed in this industry especially at the fall of 2013. The Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) point towards a rush to break into new markets for the companies, improving products release cycles and competitive edge. Here is a list of Mergers and Partnerships (M&A) that have notably transformed the geospatial landscape; Siemens and Bentley Systems Strategic Alliance Including Joint Investment Initiatives    This strategic alliance agreement focused
The role of Institutions of Higher Education in the Geospatial Industry

The role of Institutions of Higher Education in the Geospatial Industry

General, Industry
The Institutions of higher learning have a key role in ensuring the economic development of a country. In the past few years, we've had an increased number of graduates from different institutions of higher learning and different fields of specialization. Some fields register a higher number of individuals depending on the institution and this is much expected.  Over the years, the number of professionals in the industry has skyrocketed. The availability and accessibility of the institutions of higher learning, colleges and Universities, has enabled more students to get their entries to GIS, Survey and Remote Sensing related courses compared to the old days. The current trends in the industry, for example, awareness, has also contributed to the "liking" of the Geospatial related courses.

The use of GIS continues to find its ways in many fields out there with time compared to some years ago. This growth has been facilitated by various factors in the industry and more plans been put in use to even better the sector. In this post, I explore the key opportunities that exist in the industry that spearhead the use and the growth of GIS. Changing Institutional Structure Over the past few year, many organizations were not leveraging the power of GIS in their day-to-day operations. This might have been due to a number of reasons(depending on the organization). As time moved by, the integration of GIS in many sectors of business, education, health, public transport has ever since improved the consumption of Geospatial products by both individuals and organizations. Today, most com...
