Geo4Africa Summit is finally here and these are the four things to expect as a delegate.

The long wait is over, and the high valued event is finally here. From the 11th to 14th of July Eastern Africa will be treated to an exclusive 4 days of geospatial event featuring some of the most recognizable Geo brands globally.

Geo4Africa Summit is not just an event, it will be a geospatial marketplace. Solutions providers, hardware and product owners  will be looking to showcase their brands and cutting edge technologies to prospective clients during the four days through powerfully crafted presentations and live demos.

The event shall be graced by seasoned geospatial professionals as speakers with a Keynote speech from Jeff McKenna President Emeritus of OSGeo and writer of MapServer and some huge brand names such as MapServer through whom we gracefully serve our maps daily. OSGeo through which the open source geospatial tools have proliferated to the extent that has disrupted the market completely will be there too.

So what should you expect to see and learn from these brands and professionals;

A Play with the UAVs

Interested in lite UAVs  for mapping, “a PARROT company” senseFly will be doing a demo of their Drone technology in the demo sessions. If you are a UAV freak this is something to look forward to.

8 hours in total for Demos and this is largely taken by Drones. This is definitely an opportunity to get your hands on the coveted technology and demystify it once and for all. This is one session I would recommend for every delegate at the conference.

Besides Giacomo Rambaldi of CTA will perform a demonstration of how the UAVs can be used in the field of Agriculture, something is a highly likely to attract a wide range of audience. You will be sure to attend this session.

Ensure you take the software demos as  well to understand the data processing workflow for UAVs.

Secondly, Geospatial data analytics technical sessions. 3 technical sessions on how to deal with those huge chunks of data your organization has collected over the years. Finally pick the skills you need to break the data up from the lockers and transform them into value for you business. Join Richard Ngamita as he takes participants through the gist of R and geospatial data analytics.

There will also be a session covering field-to-office workflow on data handling and one session on data for health. Health sector is one of the largest disciplines that generates large amounts of data, however, the value of the data had not been realized until recently. With organizations realizing how churning health data could transform how services are delivered, they are eager to employ innovative approaches to consuming the data. As a geospatial professional, this panel will give you the insights about what the industry is looking for and the opportunities that you could take advantage of.

Thirdly, Live Panel sessions. I’ve always loved panel session because I believe they offer unique opportunity to harvest knowledge directly from some of the worlds best subject matter professionals. And this is what will be going down in Kampala. There will be sessions on UAV, GIS and Health, Data issues. Every session will be graced by individuals with  in depth knowledge from having worked on the specific subjects over a long period of time. The information shared will be intoxicating and would be something to look forward to.

Lastly, Networking. If you are a freelancer, a startup or a large company, Geo4Africa Summit is your marketplace. You are a brand however small you are, and this is exactly the kind of place to shine your light above others. Meet your future Eastern Africa market base, grow your brand, sell your products and services. Remember everyone who attends such a premier summit is looking for something, a partner, co-founder, a CTO, a developer, a particular product, a long term service provider.
