Kenya’s Big Five Map Story

This is my very first step in GIS and web mapping to be specific. Being in my first year in campus, I have this passion for GIS that drives me out of the norm to explore and learn new things that come my way. It took hard work and determination and I finally came up with a story map app. I had to ignore the fact that I had very little knowledge of this course. The app that I created did not come out of the blues nor did I just wake up and do it. It required the know-how to create it. So, I enrolled for an online course from Udemy that I was able to learn the Esri program. I faithfully did the course and at the end of it I acquired the skills on how to make story map apps, geo-apps, native apps among others. This is when I came up with KENYA’S BIG FIVE map story. The web map can be accessed at the Kenya’s Big Five Portal

kenya's big five

This is a beautiful story map of the big five animals in Kenya and the best places to find them. People from all over the world enjoyed it and posted very encouraging comments about it. This acts as an encouragement for me and any other young and aspiring Geospatial engineer out there. You have chosen among the best career/ course and you can make something good out of it no matter the little knowledge you have. The sky is not the limit. Just like me, you can also do it.

I can’t forget to mention those who have been with me along the way; my very good friend and mentor, Eric Otenyo, as well as family. Thank you for your encouragement and help during the not-so-easy-but-fruitful process.
